Obituary of Deborah Ray Blackwell
Deborah Jean Ray “Debbie” Blackwell, 70, of Bethune, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2023. Born in Camden, SC, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Annie Ray and the wife of over 48 years to James C. “Jim” Blackwell, Jr. Debbie was a lifelong member of Beaverdam Baptist Church in Cassatt, where she sang in the choir and led the prayer group. She was an Air Force veteran and worked in healthcare as an LPN with a passion for helping and caring for others. She enjoyed traveling to the beach and the mountains, reading, word searches, and shopping. Debbie cherished spending time with her family, her church family, and her beloved Peekapoos, Bailee and Dianah. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother who will be deeply missed.
In addition to her husband, Debbie is survived by her daughter, Hope Blackwell (Joshua Jeffers); her granddaughter, Karmen Davis; her siblings, Elaine Robertson (Bruce), Charles Ray, and Benny Ray (Vivian); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Debbie was preceded in death by her In-laws, James and Carolyn Blackwell; and her siblings, Goldie Moseley, Rendel Ray, David Ray, Susan Moseley, and Roger Ray.
Funeral Services will be held at 4:00pm on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Beaverdam Baptist Church, Cassatt. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, beginning at 3:00pm.
