Obituary of Rosalie Sutton Perry

ELGIN- On March 27, 1941, Rosalie Sutton “Ponkey” Perry, was born to Pickett Sr. and Rosa Lee Sutton in Camden, SC.  Rosalie was educated in the public schools of Kershaw County, and was a 1961 graduate of Jackson High School. While there, Rosalie was involved in many activities, including playing clarinet in the band. Rosalie furthered her educational pursuits at Furman University.

Rosalie had a varied work history until around 1982 when she joined the staff of Kershaw County School District. She began her career as a cafeteria assistant and quickly moved into the position of Food Service Manager at Camden High School.  Rosalie served generations of students healthy, balanced, delicious, meals. She will especially be remembered for her spaghetti, cinnamon rolls, and dinner rolls. Rosalie’s life could be described as one of a giver. She said what she meant and meant what she said but would be the first to give you the shirt off her back, food to eat and a place to sleep.  Although ambitious in her pursuits, she never failed to assist others in accomplishing their goals. In addition to being employed at Kershaw County School District she was also interested in traveling and helping her friends and family care for their children.

Rosalie was a long-time member of Camden First United Methodist Church. She served as a member of the usher board, vacation bible school committee, and the kitchen committee. She remained an active, integral part of the congregation for many years. Rosalie served her community for many years as a home health assistant. She was also active with the Communities in Schools Organization.

In addition to her parents, Rosa Lee and Pickett Sr. she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Perry; siblings, Sarah Adamson, Eliza Sutton Williams, Betty Ann Sutton, Johnnie Sutton, Pickett Sutton Jr, Clarence Sutton; sister-in-law Floretta M. Sutton; brother-in-law Marion E. Brevard, Sr.  and grand-kitty Kaci.

Rosalie leaves to cherish her memories, her loving daughter, Shanna J. Perry; her sisters Minnie Sutton, Mable Brevard, and Miriam (Ralph) Thomas; her brother Edward (Octavia) Sutton; aunts Gloria Missouri and Betty Missouri; sister-in-law Beverly Renee Sutton; brothers-in-law John Henry Williams, Bush (Geraldine) Warfield; special nieces Jennifer Perry, Kenyatta (Travis) Jefferson, Kimberly Cooke and Lakin Green; grand-puppies Kara and Bella; grand-kitties Brady and Khi along with a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
