Obituary of Homer Terry Hinson, Sr.

Homer Terry Hinson, Sr., 79, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023. Born November 10, 1943, in Bishopville, SC, he was the son of the late Charlie and Estelle Hopkins Hinson. Mr. Hinson was a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served Baptist churches in the Kershaw, Welch Neck, and Moriah Association before retiring in 2017. He enjoyed ministering, singing, preaching, fellowship, golfing, softball, the LA Dodgers, eating, naps, and above all else being with his family. Mr. Hinson was also a Honorary Mason in Lancaster Commandery No.19.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Doris “Peggy” Garrison Hinson; children, Homer “Terry” Hinson, Jr. (Ruth) of Elgin, SC, Missy Hinson Catoe (Kenny) of Lugoff, SC, Kelvin Lee Hinson (Greta) of Greenwood, SC, and Keith Lyn Hinson (Brandi) of Chester, SC; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and friends from all over the United States.

Mr. Hinson was predeceased by his son, Stacey Ross Hinson; brothers, William Hinson of Sheboygan, WI, Welbur “Boots” Hinson of Wilmington, NC, and C.L. Hinson of Lugoff, SC; and sisters, Mary Alice McCaskill of Bishopville, SC and Mildred Maness of Lugoff, SC.

A Funeral Service honoring the life of Mr. Hinson will be held Monday, June 26, 2023 at 11:00 am at Pine Grove Baptist Church. With burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Sunday, June 25, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Pine Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Kelvin and Keith Hinson will be officiating.
