Obituary of Essie Lois Taylor

Essie Lois Taylor, 88, of Dade City, FL, and formerly of Camden, SC, slipped the bonds of this Earth on Thursday, June 15, 2023. Born in Camden, SC on April 7, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Alec L. Ray and Anna Matilda Spradley Ray and the wife of the late Thomas H. Taylor. Originally from Camden, Mrs. Taylor had resided in Dade City, FL since 1970. She retired after 28 years from Lykes Pasco Orange Juice Plant in Dade City. Essie enjoyed traveling, cooking, volunteering, sewing, and crafting everything from wedding dresses to dolls. She was also an avid quilter. Above all, Mrs. Taylor was a dedicated and wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend.

 

Mrs. Taylor is survived by her children, Elaine Taylor of Dade City, FL; Linda Taylor Ray of Dade City, FL; and Darlene Taylor of Shelbyville, TN.

 

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Carlton Taylor; brothers, Dunnie Ray, Colie Ray, Albert Ray, Danny Ray, Sidney Ray, and Billy Ray; and sisters, Rosa Lee Petticord, Elizabeth Hutchison, and Wila Mae Boulware.

 

Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, June 23, 2023, at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, officiated by Rev. Todd Horton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service, beginning at 2:00pm. Burial will follow the service in Dekalb Baptist Church Cemetery, Camden.
