Obituary of Alma Wilson Griffin

CAMDEN – Funeral service for Alma Wilson Griffin, 92, will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends Sunday 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mrs. Griffin, wife of the late Ward Leroy Griffin, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023.  Born in Kershaw County, she was the daughter of the late James and Janie Collins Wilson.  She was retired from DeRoyal where she worked for 41 years and was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church on Haile Street. 

Mrs. Griffin volunteered at Food for the Soul in Camden for 3 years.  She enjoyed going to flea markets, yard sales, dancing. 

Surviving are her children, Delories Shirey Rollins (Rueben), Barbara Shirey Jordan (William), Judy Shirey, Phyllis Shirey (Monroe), Peggy Shirey Munn, Brenda Shirey Hardin (Richard), Carlos “Rudy” Shirey; sisters, Geneva Paul and Margaret Reyes; brother, Louis Wilson; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her first husband, James Albert Shirey and second husband, Walter Percy Knight; sons, James Tuffy Shirey and Marion Marty Shirey; daughter, Charliene Shirey; brothers, James Wilson, Huey Wilson, Cleve Wilson, and Leonard Wilson; and sisters, Virginia Brazell.
