Obituary of Charles Junior Sanders

Charles Junior Sanders, 93, of Elgin, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023. Born in Newry, SC, he was the son of the late Charles Gary and Jessie Leo Sanders, and the husband of Joyce Inez Bishop Sanders. Charles was a longtime member of Lighthouse Christian Ministries in Elgin, SC. He retired from the US Army after over 20 years of faithful service. He was also a licensed minister for over 30 years. After his military career, Charles worked for the Department of Corrections for many years before retiring for the final time. He enjoyed preaching, singing, hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening, and traveling. He also spent time volunteering with the Royal Rangers, Boy Scouts, and Cub Scouts. Above all, Charles cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife, Charles is survived by his children, George Sanders (Christie), Walter Sanders (Sally), and Marc Sanders (Michelle); as well as thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his sons, Danny Sanders and Gary Sanders; and his siblings, Furman Sanders, Grady Sanders, George Sanders, Sara Bowen, Irene Sanders, Hetty Brewer, and Ruby Pierce.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Lighthouse Christian Ministries, Elgin, officiated by Rev. Marc Sanders. Burial with full military honors will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
