Obituary of Eddith Verl Emery Cooper
Eddith Verl (Emery) Cooper, 92, of Lugoff, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023. Born in Aquilla, Missouri, on October 15, 1930, she was the daughter of the late William Henry & Nellie (Bailey) Emery. In 1952, she graduated from Bethesda School of Nursing in Cincinnati, OH. She retired in 2011, having worked as a Registered Nurse for 59 years. In her retirement, she was active in the Eastern Star and was a Past Worthy Matron. She volunteered in the Botanical Garden at the Riverbanks Zoo & Garden in Columbia, SC. Eddith was a world traveler, having sailed with Semester at Sea from Mexico to Tierra del Fuego in 2007, and then circumnavigating the globe in 2012.
After her graduation in 1952, Eddith married James Robert (“Bob”) Cooper of SC, and had six children, Jean Lynn Cooper of Charlottesville, VA; Patricia Jane (Cooper) Visser (Rich) of Columbia, SC; Jennifer Ann (Cooper) Keels (Dennis) of Gaston, SC; James Robert Cooper, Jr. of Florida; Eric Lloyd Cooper (Robin) of Lugoff, SC; and William Emery Cooper, also of Lugoff, SC. Over the years, Bob and Eddith lived in Waterford, MI; Santee, SC; and Lugoff, SC. They were married for 50 years, until his death in 2002.
In addition to her children, she is survived by her sister, Willa Gene (Emery) Ward of Waterford, MI; six grandchildren: Nicole (Visser) Holloman (Wayne); Benjamin Visser (Sarah); Emily (Visser) Haga (Michael); Hank Cooper (Katie); Wyatt Cooper; Madelyn Cooper; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, March 10, 2023, at Powers Funeral Home.
Following the service, Eddith’s family and friends are invited to gather at the Elgin VFW, 2464 Bowen Street, Elgin, SC 29045 for a meal, beginning at 1:00pm.
