Obituary of James Grant, Jr.
“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens; a time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-2.
Mr. James Grant Jr. departed this life on February 24, 2023, in New Jersey. Born in Boykin South Carolina, he was the son of the late James and Gertrude Pollard Grant.
Mr. Grant attended the public schools of Kershaw County. At an early age, he left the family home and move to New Jersey.
He received Christ and was baptized at an early age at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in Rembert, South Carolina. Upon moving to New Jersey, he became a member of Faith Temple #1 Original Free Will Baptist Church in East Orange, New Jersey. He truly loved and cherished worshipping and praising the Lord. He was a dedicated member of the Usher Ministry and the Mission Ministry until his illness.
James worked for East Coast Truck Parts in Newark, New Jersey for 25 years.
James is preceded in death by his first wife Mattie Grant; one daughter: Loretta; 3 brothers: Frank, Sam, and Walter; 2 sisters: Ella and Elease and one brother-in-law James Clinton Stukes.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Sonia, his daughters Michelle Llewellyn, Annette, Deborah and Renee Grant all of Newark Jersey; his sons Tracy Grant of Newark, New Jersey and Kenneth Grant of North Carolina; His sisters Mary Stukes and Neila Stewart (James); A sister-in-law Henry Ann Grant; along with 28 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 11 a 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
