Obituary of Stewart M. Ellington

Stewart Macon Ellington, 82, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 3, 2023. Born in Vance County, NC, he was the son of the late Batt and Irma Frazier Ellington.  Mr. Ellington received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from NC State University and worked as a professional engineer with DuPont for 34 years. He enjoyed bird hunting and running a chainsaw. Mr. Ellington was a faithful member of Lugoff First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Building and Grounds Committee.

Left to cherish Mr. Ellington’s memories are his beloved wife of 58 years, JoAnn Anders Ellington; daughter, Jennifer E. Kearney (Wayne) of Pinehurst, NC; son, Michael S. Ellington (Ashley) of West Point, GA; sisters, June E. Daniel of Oxford, N.C. and Katherine E. Russell of Middlesex, N.C.; grandchildren, Elaine K. Kowalewski (Mark), AllieAnna J. Ellington, Emily K. Kearney, Jonathan M. Ellington, and Wyatt M. Ellington; nephews, Dennis Daniel, Todd Daniel and Bert Russell; and nieces, Sandra Yancy, Janine Andreasen; and one grandniece, Denise Edmonds.  He was predeceased by a sister, Cornelia “Nelia” Ellington; one nephew, Kevin Daniel.

Funeral Services for Mr. Ellington will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Lugoff First Baptist Church with burial to follow the service in Lugoff First Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 5:30 -7:30 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lugoff First Baptist Church or Gideons International.
