Obituary of Patricia B. Munn
Patricia Alice “Patty” Boswell Munn of Columbia, SC, wife of Michael Munn, died on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at the Lexington Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Her memorial service will be held Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 2:00 at Northeast United Methodist Church, 4000 Hardscrabble Road, Columbia, SC 29223. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
The daughter of the late Jesse C. and Gwendolyn F. Boswell, Patty was born January 21, 1950, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood, SC. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina, holding both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in education. She was also a National Board Certified teacher.
Her teaching career began in Hartsville, SC and after a year she returned to Columbia and taught for 42 years in the schools of Richland District 2, first as a teacher for students with visual impairments and later as a teacher of students with other special needs. Throughout the years she taught in various schools, among them Windsor, EL Wright, Pontiac, Bethel-Hanberry and Round Top Elementary Schools, retiring in 2014 only to go back and work as a substitute teacher for 6 years. Teaching was her love and her passion. Patty always opened her arms and her heart to everyone, always loving, never judging.
Patty and Michael were charter members of Northeast United Methodist Church where she was the director of Bible School for 5 years.
Patty is survived by her husband, Michael Munn, her son Thad B. Munn of the home, her daughter Mary Gwen Sims (Chris) of Columbia and her three grandchildren on whom she doted and was their “Cake”, Brianna Neeley, of the home, Mike Sims and Henry Sims of Columbia. She is also survived by her brother Larry Boswell of Jamestown, NC, her sister Evie Evans (Jack) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, sister and brother in-law Linda and Eddie Cobb of Camden, and nieces and nephews.
