Obituary of Avis Hyatt
Avis Hyatt, 80, of Lugoff, and formerly of Columbia, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late O. Leon and Della Ruth Poe Hyatt. Avis was a longtime member of Springvale Baptist Church in Lugoff. She attended University High School and enjoyed a long and rewarding career as a medical transcriptionist with Baptist, Lexington, and Providence Hospitals. Avis had a lifelong passion for music, especially singing and playing the piano. She sang lead on her family’s album, “The Hyatt Sisters: What A Friend Is He”. Her music was also played on the radio, and she performed at numerous singing conventions around the Columbia area. She enjoyed scrapbooking, coloring, and making cards to give to family and friends. Above all, Avis loved her family and her Lord. She spent her life encouraging others to know God through her music and her character.
Avis is survived by her children, Debbie Watts (Robby), Darlene Fraley (Darren), Donna Mabry (Don), and David Blizzard; her grandchildren, Dustin, Heather, Travis, Ashton, Emily, Ashleigh, and Austin; 10 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Doris Baker (Clint), Eunice Medlin (James), and Diane Kirkland (Stan).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Aria Rose.
