Obituary of Sidney Evans Horton, Sr.

Sidney Evans Horton, Sr., 80, of Austell, GA, and formerly of Augusta, GA and Camden, SC, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2022. Born in Camden, he was the son of the late Richard Evans and Clivie Railey Horton and the husband of Phyllis Horton. Sidney retired as a Superintendent of Augusta Newsprint Corp. in Augusta, GA, after 38 years of service. He was a graduate of Bethune High School and Spartanburg Junior College. He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins and watching sports. Sidney loved his family dearly and cherished spending time with his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed the years after his retirement spent at his mountain home sitting on the deck taking in the views and listening to the roaring mountain stream.

In addition to his wife, Sidney is survived by his sons, Sidney “Sid” Horton, Jr. of Maggie Valley, NC, and Dr. Justin Horton (Kristin) of Mableton, GA; his grandchildren, Evans Horton of Greenville, SC, Rachel Horton of Waynesville, NC, Connor Horton of Mableton, GA, Whitaker “Whit” Horton of Mableton, GA, Kara White of Waynesville, NC, and Logan White of Waynesville, NC; his sister, Robin Kauth of Camden, SC; and a special aunt, Doris Horton of Kershaw, SC.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Horton; and brother, Horace Horton.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, Kershaw, SC.
