Obituary of Annie Joan Keens WIlson
LUGOFF-Annie Joan Keens Wilson passed away peacefully on August 8, 2022 at the age of 101. Born in Bedfordshire, England, she was the daughter of the late John and Susanna Osborne Keens. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Lugoff First Baptist Church and a faithful member of the Dorcus School Class. She moved to this country after WWII when she married her husband of 74 years, Lowell “Whip” Rudolph Wilson. She and Whip enjoyed traveling this country and visited almost every state in the union.
Joan was a homemaker and a person of many skills. In her early years she was a professional seamstress, a gifted pianist and violinist, and was known in her young years to play an accordion duet with her Dad. She celebrated the birth of four fifth generation great-grandchildren. She was a member of the American Legion Post 144 in Lynchburg for over 60 years.
Joan is survived by daughters, Jo Ann Wilson Hanks (Dwight), Jeanette Wilson Elliott; grandchildren, Jennifer Thomas (Randy), Rhett Elliott, Nikki Stokes (Pete); great-grandchildren, Hunter McManus (Amelia), Brittany Rabon (Dalton); and great-great grandchildren, Myles Elliott McManus, Hank Wilson Rabon, Anna-Martin McManus and Levi Dalton Rabon. She was predeceased by her husband, Rudolph Wilson; daughter, Joyce Wilson Outlaw; and siblings, Jack Keens and Pauline Bediedy of Great Britain.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Lugoff First Baptist Church with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Doug Huntsinger and the Rev. David Robinson will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. in the church foyer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lugoff First Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 106 Longtown Rd, Lugoff, SC 29078 or to a charity of your choice.
