Obituary of Henry Richard Kirkland, Sr.

LUGOFF – A service to celebrate the life of Henry Richard Kirkland, Sr., 77, will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022, at 2pm at Powers Funeral Home, 832 Ridgeway Rd, Lugoff, SC 29078 with burial to follow in the Concord Baptist Church cemetery. Dr. Joe Youngblood and Rev. D.J. Kirkland will officiate. The family will receive friends at Powers Funeral Home prior to the service, beginning at 1pm. Memorials may be made to Concord Baptist Church.

      Mr. Kirkland passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.  He was the son of the late Sam Richard and Lila LeGrand Kirkland. Mr. Kirkland retired from Southeastern Freight Lines, where he was honored to have worked. He loved the Lord, his family, and friends. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He loved Braves baseball, and hunting. Mr. Kirkland would always give a helping hand to those in need.

    Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Peggy Richardson Kirkland, the love of his life even in his last days when she walked into his sight his face would light up; daughter, Windy Kirkland Smith (Miles); son, Henry “Richard” Kirkland, Jr. (Regina); grandchildren, Tyler Anne Kirkland, Megan Bettis (Chase), Peggy and Julie Smith; sisters, Minnie Motley, Edna Martin, Sue Branham, Daisy Rhodes; brother, “Cotton” Kirkland (Dee); sisters-in-law, Myra Kirkland and Connie Youngblood (Joe); and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, James E. Kirkland, Danny J. Kirkland (Linda), Sam W. Kirkland, Duncan Kirkland; sisters, Nettie Mae Cameron and Sallie Bell O’Quinn; and brother-in-law, Nelson Rhodes.

   The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Frampton Henderson and his loving staff, Heart of Hospice and loving caregivers, Christine Lopes, Amanda Brown, Jamie Crapps, Linda Shealey, Eva Samples, Meredith Myers, Dianne Sargent.
