Obituary of James L. Mays
ELGIN – A memorial service for James Lee Mays, 78, will be Friday at 5:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. The family will receive friends following the service until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elgin’s Toys for Tots c/o Elgin Town Hall
Mr. Mays passed away at home on Saturday, July 2, 2022. Born in Florence, S.C., he was the son of the late James Woodrow and Laura Mae Gibson Mays. Jimmy was self-employed and ran the Elgin Quick Shop for 22 years. He was a member of of Killian Baptist Church. Jimmy loved his family and enjoyed golf, fishing, and NASCAR racing. He also enjoyed spreading Christmas cheer for many years playing Santa Clause.
Surviving are his daughter, Michelle Killman (John); sons, Barry Mays (Bertha) and Brandon Mays (Lindsay); grandchildren, Greer Douglas (Sam), Johnny Killman Jr. (Christy), Aiden and Nash; and a great-grandchild, Teagan Douglas. He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Mays.
