ELGIN – Funeral service for Raymond Elbert Mathews, Jr., 59, will be held Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. Harvest Baptist Church with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The Rev. Mitch Prosser will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 14, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Mr. Mathews died Monday, November 12, 2012. Born in San Fernando, Calif., he was the son of the late Raymond Elbert Mathews, Sr. and Lenora Orum Mathews. He retired from the United States Army. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed fishing and working on computers. He was known for his loving and witty personality, also his generosity for others in need. Surviving are his wife, Linda L. Mathews; children, Dottie Sharpe, Sammy Lawson, and James Dent; sister, Elizabeth Meckley; 14 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren
