Obituary of Joyce Wilson Outlaw
Joyce Katherine Wilson Outlaw, 70, of Lugoff, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2022, at her home. Born in Florence, SC on August 12, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Lowell Rudolph Wilson. Ms. Outlaw was a member of Hermitage Baptist Church, where she served on many committees. Her favorite event was the Pumpkin Patch Ministry held every October. Each year it became bigger under her leadership.
She is survived by her mother, Joan Keens Wilson; sisters, Jo Ann Wilson Hanks (Dwight) and Jeanette Wilson Elliott. She was a loving aunt to Jennifer Thomas (Randy), Rhett Elliott, Nikki Stokes (Pete), Brittany Rabon (Dalton), and Hunter McManus (Amelia).
Joyce retired from DHEC in 2010, where she managed all the voice communications for emergency personnel. She never encountered a stranger. She was a caretaker to her mother after caring for a friend, Jay. Her passions included her church, music, traveling, antique shopping, fancy handbags and jewelry, but none more important to her than her family. She was particularly fond of her niece’s grandchildren, Hank and Levi. She will be truly missed.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful Amedisys Hospice team.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Hermitage Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Mark Hopkins. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hermitage Baptist Church Building Fund, 814 Jefferson Davis Highway, Camden, SC 29020.
