Obituary of Lois Chewning Atkerson

CAMDEN- Addie Lois Keziah Chewning Atkerson, 82, of Camden, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022. Born in Monroe, NC, she was the daughter of the late Richard Alexander and Lois Martin Keziah. Mrs. Atkerson attended Pine View Baptist Church in Blythewood. She enjoyed spending time reading her bible. She was a skilled basketball player in her youth and an avid Carolina Women’s Basketball fan. Lois was an excellent cook and enjoyed taking trips with her family, especially to the mountains to pick apples.

She is survived by her sons, Ricky Chewning (Babs), Allen Chewning (Pam), and Scott Chewning (Gwen); grandchildren, Brooke Bradshaw (Josh), Chelsy Nichol, Chase Chewning (Michelle), and Clayton Chewning; as well as her great-grandchildren, Brady, Brayden, Ariel, Gabriel, Lily, Kenna, and Jaxon (aka “Tater”).

In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Warner Chewning; her second husband, Johnny Thomas Atkerson; and ten brothers and sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at St. Andrew Church of God, Camden, officiated by Rev. Lawrence Chewning. The family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00pm. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
