Obituary of Albert Reece Newman

Albert Reece Newman, 86, of Elgin, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022. Born in Athens, TN, he was the son of the late Arlie Joseph and Bes Derrick Newman and the husband of 62 years to the late Lieselotte Susanna Heinz “Lilo” Newman. Albert was a member of Spears Creek Baptist Church. He served for over 20 years in the US Army, including the Korean War and two deployments to Vietnam. After his military service, Albert worked as an Inspector for Westinghouse, retiring after 22 years. Mr. Newman was also a Mason and a Shriner. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished spending time with his family.

Mr. Newman is survived by his sons, Denny Reece Newman (Gay), Robert Ray Newman (Debi), and Randy Odean Newman (Michele); his daughter, Robin Anette Newman; as well as 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his wife and parents, Albert was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jo Tillman; and brother, R.J. Newman.  

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Spears Creek Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Greg Sweet. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, beginning at 12:00pm. Burial with full military honors will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
