Obituary of Charlie Louis McGee, Sr.

    Charlie Louis McGee, Sr., 81, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Born in Kershaw County, he was a son of the late Willie McGee and Mary Ellen Tucker McGee. Mr. McGee was educated in the Kershaw County Public School system and attended Rockhill Baptist Church. He worked as one of the first black Kershaw County Sherriff Department deputies and retired from williams Mechanical where he did plumbing work. He enjoyed yardwork, fishing, and watching westerns. Mr. McGee was well known as “Big Love” by family and friends alike.

    Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Mary Ann Ruff (Thomas), Sandra E. McGee Dodd (Charles); sons, Charlie Louis McGee, Jr., Frankie Lee McGee; siblings, Nellie Jones, Leila Mae McGee, Thomas McGee, Jimmy McGee, Jerry Hazel McGee (Kizzie), Milton McGee; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives.  He was predeceased by his wife, Elouise Campbell McGee; daughter, Peggy Cathen McCaulttey, and siblings, George W. McGee, Eddie Benjamin McGee.

     A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
