Obituary of Frances King Blizzard

Columbia - Frances King Blizzard was born and raised in Anderson, S.C.  She was the daughter of the late J.C. King, Sr. and Nell Burden King.  She was married to David "Sonny" Blizzard of Dentsville for over 60 years.  They lived in the Columbia area including Dentsville, Elgin and Northeast Columbia. 

Frances graduated from Anderson Girls High School in 1959.  She graduated from Anderson Memorial Hospital Nursing in 1962.  She had a lengthy career, 60+ years in nursing including Columbia Hospital, Richland Memorial Hospital and lastly South Carolina Oncology Associates.  She had a natural caring nature which fit her career.  “You treat the disease, you win some, sometimes you lose, you treat the patient you win every time”

Frances was an active member of Blaney Baptist Church.  She was very involved in the children’s program as a Sunday School teacher and Bible school.  She had very strong faith and it showed in her daily life.

Frances was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She was affectionally known as Hanky, Granny Hank, and G Hank. She loved her precious babies.  She was known for her great family meals, and you would always go home with a plate.  She always made guests feel welcome.

Surviving are her husband, Sonny Blizzard; sons, David Blizzard (Deborah) and Jim Blizzard (Evelyn); daughter, Mandy Leaphart (Barry);  grandchildren, Ann Redd (Gene), Patti Bailey (Dustin), Joleen Hanlon, Joe (Christina) Blizzard, Tabitha Graddick, Kyle Blizzard, Rocky Trammell, Ryan (Sammie) Blizzard, Holly Kinard, Landon Leaphart, and Kaleb Leaphart; great-grandchildren, Emma Hanlon, Belle Blizzard, Nevaeh Woodard, Lilly Blizzard, Landon Hensley, Skyler Graddick, Levi Trammell, Sereneity Gallman, Kaitlyn Redd, and Abbi Redd; sister, Nancy Rabon (Ricky) of Lexington; all the Blizzard, Dabbs, Davenport, King, Spinks nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by brothers, Jim King and Bill King; sister, Betty Ann King; and great granddaughter, Brooklynn Kinard. 

A memorial service will be held at 4pm on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Blaney Baptist Church, Elgin. The family will receive friends 1hr prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blaney Baptist Church, 1400 Blaney Rd, Elgin SC 29045.
