Obituary of Millie Maples Ward
Mrs. Millie Maples Ward, 93, of Cassatt, SC, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, March 27, 2022. Born in Rock Hill, SC, on November 6, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Rufus Byrum and Gertrude Gallman Maples and the wife of 54 years to the late Curtis Eugene Ward. Mrs. Ward was an avid quilter and a member of the Logan Lap Quilters for many years before moving to Cassatt and joining the Quilters of Kershaw County. She loved making quilts and giving them away to family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, William B. Ward of Cassatt, SC and Curtis L. Ward (Eve) of Blythewood, SC; her daughter, Curtys W. Quesinberry (Danny) of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, William R. Ward (Melanie) of Fredericksburg, VA, Elizabeth Ward of Kershaw, SC, Franklin Hagood (Missy) of Blythewood, SC, Tom Hagood (Shelia) of Elizabethtown, NC, Allen Hagood (Brandy) of Blythewood, SC, Danielle Yarborough (Brent) of Irmo, SC, Marshall Quesinberry (Kimberly) of New Bern, NC, and Brandon Ward and Benjamin Ward, both of Cassatt, SC; as well as 15 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Franklin Maples, Darryl Maples (Lorna Jean), and Elizabeth McCarty (Byron), all from Lugoff, SC; a brother-in-law, Loren Ivie of Peachtree City, GA; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Millie was predeceased by her son, James C. Cowan Jr.; daughter, Betty Jean Hagood; a brother, Billie Maples; and sisters, Frances Grafton and Sylvia Ivie.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Antioch Baptist Church, 1875 Antioch Road, Camden SC, officiated by Rev. Marshall Quesinberry. The family will receive friends at the church prior to service, beginning at 2:00pm. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
