Mildred Lois Branham Hornsby passed peacefully at Southwinds Assisted Living on Friday, March 18, 2022. Mildred was born January 5, 1943, to the late Harold Edward and Minnie Watts Branham. On December 16, 1961, Mildred married the love of her life, Joe Hornsby, Jr. Until Joe passed in March 2020 it was extremely rare to see one without the other and most times holding hands. Their love and courtship extended through 59 years here on earth that even Dementia and Alzheimer’s could not weaken. Theirs was a true love story for all time.

Mrs. Hornsby retired from Skyline Manufacturing where she not only worked but also made and nourished many friendships there throughout the years. She was an active member of Springvale Baptist Church where she served in many capacities including Treasurer, choir member, and helping in any way needed. To know Mildred was to love her. She cared for everyone and more than anything enjoyed time with her beloved Joe, her family, and friends. Living next door to her mother and several siblings, she could always be found caring for and making sure her mother and siblings were taken care of. Mildred was also well known for her love for sweets, especially chocolate and she always had some to share when you visited her home. Mildred loved music, playing the piano hearing and her brothers and son picking the guitars and singing. She loved the Bible and she loved arts and crafts projects, something she and Joe enjoyed doing together through the years. She enjoyed shopping trips with cousins and trips with her “Tweenagers” group from church. Mildred loved life and spent it caring for others. Even through the earthly trials of dementia the last few years of her life, Mildred Hornsby continued to bless the lives of everyone around her. Mildred was love.

Left to carry on her legacy of love is her son, Joseph Alexander “Joey” Hornsby (Valencia) who was her pride and joy and two grandchildren, Abigail Marie Hornsby (Michael Blackwell) and Grant Alexander “Alex” Hornsby (Samantha). She also has 3 step-grandchildren Erika Maxfield, Ethan Chandler, and Addison Munson and 5 step great-grandchildren. She is survived by a brother, Ronnie Branham, sisters-in-law Paulette Branham (Floyd), Jean Hornsby (Paul), and Linda Hornsby (Michael) as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister Laura Truesdale (Kenneth), and brothers Floyd Branham (Paulette), and Tally Branham (Cathy).  She was also predeceased by a nephew, Ron Branham, Jr.

The family of Mildred Hornsby wishes to extend the most sincere gratitude to the staff and the residents of Southwinds Assisted Living and to Crescent Hospice for the love and care they have provided the past two years.  The family also extends gratitude to Daisy Faulkenberry, Patsy Jackson Durst, and Tiawanna Dinkins for the love and service extended to Mildred and her family, especially in the past weeks.
