Obituary of Murray Eugene Morton

A celebration of life for Murray Eugene Morton, 83, will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 4:00 PM, at Camden First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to (NYCFACES) Finding A Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures, 223 East 34th Street, NY, NY  10016 and Camden First Baptist Church.

            Mr. Morton was born in Huntersville, NC to the late Lewis Glenn and Elva Bradley Morton, on May 23, 1938. He honorably served his Country in the United States Army and retired from Rose’s where he was the store manager.  He was former manager of W.T. Grants and owner of The Plant Outlet in Spartanburg from 1992-2002.

 Mr. Morton was a faithful member of Camden First Baptist Church where he served on the buildings and grounds committee sharing his love for flowers through his landscaping talents.  He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, hiking, running his beagles and golf.  He was an avid reader, a true history buff and a proud supporter of the NRA.   He cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and was an incredible storyteller.  Mr. Morton was lovingly known as M&M to his grandchildren, and “Dickie” to the Morton family.

            Mr. Morton is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Rebecca “Becky” Hancock Morton; daughters, Stefani Rebecca Morton of Lexington, SC and Leslie Morton Harmon (Scott) of Little Mountain, SC; brothers, Lewis G. Morton Jr. of Hilton Head, SC, and Alan Morton (Glenna) of Mouth of Wilson, VA; sister, Carol Morton McConnell (Jimmy) of Cornelius, NC; and grandchildren, Emily Grace, Tidal, Luke, Olivia and Hensley.

            He was predeceased by his parents, Lewis Glenn and Elva Bradley Morton; brothers, Charles Morton and Eric Morton; and sisters, Josephine Howell and Jackie Brooks.
