Obituary of Rebecca Weems

COLUMBIA – Funeral service for Rebecca Shannon Weems, 88, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Midway Independent Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

    Mrs. Weems, wife of the late Richard E. Weems, passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2022.  Born in Richland County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Lee Shannon and Rebecca Blizzard Shannon.  She was a faithful member of Midway Independent Methodist Church.  Mrs. Weems’s mission in life was to help others and her lifelong friends made while she and her husband traveled with the military was proof of her faithful friendship.  She enjoyed playing softball, spending time with her grandchildren and going to Carowinds.

    Surviving are her sons, Dean Weems (Beth Lewis) of Columbia and Richard “Rick” Weems, Jr. (Nancy) of Lugoff; daughter, Betty Ann Brooks (Bryan) of Columbia; sister, Pauline Rhodin; grandchildren, Carrie Purvis, Brian Weems, Mike Weems, Samuel Weems, and Christina Jewel; great-grandchildren, Savannah Purvis, Joe-Joe Purvis, Jr., Brianna Weems, Alyssa Weems, Caleb Weems and Anna Belle Furlough; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
