Obituary of Mary Roberta "Bobbe" Mendenhall

Mary Roberta “Bobbe” Mendenhall, 70, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021. She was the only child of the late Robert and Ida Mendenhall.

Bobbe grew up on a farm in Kennett Square, PA and later attended and graduated from James Madison University in Virginia. After graduation, she started a business offering rehabilitation for horses. She worked closely with the New Bolton Center, which is the equine branch of the University of Pennsylvania Vet School. She also owned and raced thoroughbreds throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. Bobbe worked closely with many vet students who have since become veterinarians and thus formed a worldwide network.

After 58 years of living in the historic family home, she transitioned to a farm down the road in West Grove, PA before ultimately moving to Camden, SC in 2015. There she continued her equine rehabilitation work. During this time and as a result of her many years of experience, she invented and patented a specialized equine hood for the purpose of dealing with eye injuries. She developed and marketed this product under a partnership: Equine-Medi, LLC.

Bobbe is survived by several first cousins; two devoted workers, Felix Caballero and Mitch McLain; her close friends, Joe and Sandra Walsh; as well as many others who provided much support in her many endeavors. She was also thankful for the exceptional care she received at Kershaw Hospital.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the animal charity of one’s choice.
