Obituary of Louise Smith

Virginia “Louise” Smith, 77, of Lugoff, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Friday, October 15, 2021. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Lowman and Virginia Bryant Wallace and the wife of Billy Wolbert Smith. Louise enjoyed cooking, sewing, and crocheting. She was also a great fisherman. Louise was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her husband, Louise is survived by her children, Virginia “Ginny” Belford (John), Joyce O’Cain (Tom), Billy Joe Smith, and Janet Smith; grandchildren, John Belford, Brian Belford (Kim), Justin Thornton (Angie), Matthew Thornton (Fujiko), Lindsey Corbin (Matthew), Jacob Smith (Cassie), Jessica Janzen (Jeffrey), Molli Smith, and Zachary O’Cain; as well as fourteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by four siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00pm on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Powers Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Bill Dulaney. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service, beginning at 6:00pm. Burial will be held in Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 9:00am on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.
