Obituary of Stephen Dowey

LUGOFF – Funeral service for Jackie Stephen Dowey, 71, will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The Rev. Eric Boone will officiate.  The family will receive friends Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church.

     Mr. Dowey passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021.  Born in Lugoff, S.C. on Sept 4, 1950, he was the son of the late Henry Alexander and Etta Doris Jackson Dowey.

     Mr. Dowey was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and a founding member of Pine Grove Fire Department.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, tractors, mules and spending time with his grandchildren.  He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family very much.  He was the most kindhearted person who always wanted others to smile and laugh.

    Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Vivian Hutto Dowey; son, Stephen Dowey of Elgin; daughter, Jessica Ray (Jeremy) of Lugoff; grandchildren, Ryan Dowey, Jackson Dowey, Jaydon Ray and Jenna Ray; sister, Delores Napper; and brothers, Frankie Dowey, Terry Dowey (Jackie) and Arnold Dowey.  He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Glenn Napper.
