Obituary of Valaree Halley Montgomery

SUMTER- Funeral services for Mrs. Montgomery will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, September 16, 2021 in the chapel of Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Burial will follow in Cedar Cemetery, Camden.

Valaree Montgomery was born June 15, 1942, in Bishopville, SC. She was the daughter of Manning Halley and Kennie Jenkins Halley both of Bishopville. Valaree departed this life on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at MUSC KershawHealth in Camden, SC.

Valaree was a dedicated mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was loved by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Montgomery; brothers, Hirtrell Halley and his wife, Bessie, Willie James Halley, Robert Halley, Matthew Halley, and Thomas Halley; her sister, Nora Lee Halley; sons, Robert and Ronnie Montgomery; a granddaughter, Latesha Clea; and great-granddaughter, Kylee Hunter.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories her children, Eartha Hunter (Herbert), Herbert Montgomery, Bertha Montgomery, Carolyn DuBose, and Marion Montgomery; grandchildren, Tameka Hunter, Tia Hunter, Penny Hunter, Troy Hunter, Kanisha McLeod, Nathan Burroughs, Lakanisha Reese, Jalil Miller, Ziedel Clark, and Cason Montgomery; as well as twenty-five great-grandchildren.
