Obituary of J.C. Jordan
CAMDEN – Funeral service for John Calvin “Red” Jordan Sr., 94, will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Bruce Hancock will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home.
Mr. Jordan, husband of the late Valerie Jackson Jordan, died Friday, January 17, 2014. Born in Camden, he was the son the late Frank L. and Nezzie Roberts Jordan. He served in the United States Army during WW II and was a recipient of the Bronze Star and was a police officer with the City of Camden from 1947-1961. He was a former businessman in Camden. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Camden and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 17.
Mr. Jordan loved spending time with his grandchildren and adored his dog “Miss Pip”.
Surviving are his daughters, Gayle Clay (Harry) of Camden and Gloria Cox (Lynn) of Camden; son, John Jordan Jr. (Wendy) of Cassatt; sister, Rosalie Marturano of Camden; brother, Dr. Don “Butch” Jordan(Susan) of Columbia; sisters-in-law, Lois Jordan and Conya Caughman; grandchildren, Joseph Clay (Vicki), Byron Clay (Kristen), Jade Marion, Justin Jordan (Casey), and Dylan Jordan; great-grandchildren, Michael Clay, Amber Clay, Reece Clay, Gaven Marion, Whitley Eley, Cayleigh Jordan and Bradley Jordan; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary Gotto (Chuck) and Vera Andrews; brother, Clyde Jordan; and brothers-in-law, Vic Marturano and Ellis Caughman.
The family extends a special thanks to Mr. Jordan’s caregivers, Felicia Robinson and Sandy Doyle, the staff at McCoy Memorial Nursing Ceneter of Bishopville, staff at Carolina Pines ICU in Hartsville, and the staff at McLeod Hospice House for their loving care.
