Obituary of William "Bill" Christian Schlondrop
ELGIN- A celebration of life service for William Christian Schlondrop, 89, will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, November 5, 2021, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Marine Corps Association.
Mr. Schlondrop passed away Saturday, May 22, 2021. Born in Madison, WI, he was a son of the late William C Schlondrop, Sr. and Anna Weisflecker. His father’s family was of German descent, and his mother was Austrian. Mr. Schlondrop retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after 24 years. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of the Marine Corps Association and the Warrant Officers Association. William attended the University of Wisconsin, where he was a member of the swim team. After retiring from the military, he attended Midlands Technical College in El Paso, TX, where he received an associate degree in professional communications. Bill was an avid reader, journalist, poet, and sci-fi writer. He had eight of his novels and short stories published. He always had a passion for literature, and even taught creative writing classes to seniors. Mr. Schlondrop was very proud of his time in the Marine Corps, and would always return words of thanks with, “It was my honor to serve.”
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Knight-Schlondrop of Elgin; children, Ana Sanders of El Paso, TX, and Karl Schlondrop of CT; step-children, Ronald B. Smith (Kamie) and Anna Cherie Smith (Amsler); a brother, Robert Schlondrop of WI; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his children, William Schlondrop, IV and Patricia Schlondrop.
