Obituary of Dorothy "Dot" Boswell Trotter

Dorothy (Dot) Boswell Trotter passed away peacefully at her home in Camden, SC on March 5, 2021, at the age of 97. She was a resident of Pinedale Assisted Living where she was tremendously loved by staff as well as her fellow residents. Dot greatly loved people and never tired of making new friends or lending a helping hand. She was fun-loving and always enjoyed kidding around and sharing a good laugh with others.

Dot was born in Commerce, Georgia on March 11, 1923, the daughter of the late Edward and Mamie (Wilbanks) Boswell. She spent most of her youth in Cornelia, Georgia, where she was later employed by Johnson and Johnson. In 1957, Dot moved to Camden, SC with her beloved husband, (the late) Glen A. Trotter. She worked many years in Camden for both Skyline Manufacturing and DuPont, where she was a highly respected and valued employee. She and Glen were married for 52 happy years until his passing. She often said he was the “best husband in the world”. After retiring from DuPont, Dot went on to work at Kmart as a store “greeter” where she spent many happy years and was known widely by the community simply as “Ms. Dot”. With her sweet and outgoing personality, she made many friends from all walks of life. Dot was a devout Christian and longtime devoted member of Hermitage Baptist Church.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Robert (Bob) Boswell of Mt. Dora, FL and Thomas (TW) William Boswell of Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Lois Geneva Boswell Battle of Littleton, CO; a son, James (Jamie) L. Trotter of Camden, SC; grandson, Shandon J. Trotter of Camden, SC. She leaves behind her great grandson, Pierceton (Pierce) Trotter of West Columbia, SC, who she referred to as the “love of her life”. She also leaves behind her daughter-in-law, Glenda Trotter of Camden, SC; nieces, Pamela Fraser-Shenkin of Littleton, CO, and Patsy Battle Evans of Somersworth, NH; a nephew, Tommy Boswell of Jacksonville, FL; godchildren, Leeann McCaskill Estes and Allison McCaskill Sullivan of Greenwood, SC; and very special friends, Marilyn Haufler, Robin Ball and Edna Johnson all of Camden, SC.

The family of Dot would especially like to thank Dot’s cherished friend, Marilyn for her loyalty, devotion and friendship to Dot over many decades. Many thanks as well to Marilyn’s daughter Robin, and to Edna Johnson, who both spent countless hours providing friendship and assistance to Dot. Edna notably helped Dot to take care of her mother, Mamie, in her last years, and then went on to help take care of Dot as well when she was in need. Dot was well loved by all and will be sorely missed.

Visitation hours for Dot will be from 11:00 to 1:00 PM on March 20, 2021 at Powers Funeral Home in Lugoff, SC. Dot will be laid to rest beside her dear husband, Glen, following the visitation in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on March 20, 2021 at 2:00 PM.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that all in attendance please wear an appropriate face covering.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Hermitage Baptist Church in Dot’s memory.
