BLYTHEWOOD – A service to celebrate the life of Thomas Nick Thompson, 78, will be held on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. The family will receive friends Saturday 3:00-4:30 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. The family will also be receiving visitors at the home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Mr. Thompson passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2020. Born in Statesville, N.C., he was the son of the late Nick and Carrie Nance Thompson. He was the former owner of the IGA’s in Elgin, Camden, Blythewood, Gaston and Allendale. Following his retirement, he enjoyed operating his produce stand. Mr. Thompson coached softball for many years and was an avid sports fan. He also enjoyed playing golf. He was a member of the Lugoff Masonic Lodge #411. Surviving are his wife of 17 ½ years, Leah Denise Brasell Thompson; children, Katrina Cobb (Keith), Tommy Thompson (Tracy), Aaron Thompson (Wanda), Sebrina Thompson, Courtney Johnson (David), and Nikki Perez (Gene); brother, Jim Thompson (Brenda); sister, Mary Seidenfaden (W.D.) and Cathy Faust (Richard); 10 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by stepfather, Cecil Miller; a brother, Sanford Thompson; and a sister, Rachel Goodman.
