Obituary of Roy Kelley

CAMDEN – Funeral services for Roy “Bigdaddy” Kelley, Jr., 79, will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Bethel Worship Center with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Donald Goude, The Rev. Casey Mills, and The Rev. Randy James will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Heart Association, The American Cancer Society, or the Ronald McDonald House. Mr. Kelley passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2013. Born in Hartsville, he was a son of the late Roy, Sr. and Retha Gainey Kelley. He was a member of Bethel Worship Center, and served in the U.S. Navy. He loved traveling to the Navy reunions, where he and his shipmates could talk about their time aboard the USS Telfair, and he had a deep respect for the men and women serving our country. Roy owned and operated Roy Kelley Auto Sales for over 50 years. He had a passion for antique cars, especially for his 63 Corvettes. He enjoyed fishing, car shows, and just being with his family and friends. He is leaving a legacy of love and compassion and friendship to every person he met. He was generous, kindhearted, and never met a stranger. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Sheila Spivey Kelley; son, Roy Leslie Kelley (Teresa) of Camden; daughters, Terry Kelley of Columbia, Mandy Thomasson (Worth) of Camden; grandchildren, Les Kelley, Jason Kelley (Shannon), Erin Kelley, Brandon Kelley, Anothony Connell, Kelley Connell, Worth Thomasson IV, Bella Grace Thomasson; great-grandchildren, Bryn Kelley, Dalyn Kelley; brothers, Bruce Kelley (Alma) of Camden, Blease Kelley (Rosa) of Lugoff, Rev. Burch Kelley (Emily) of Camden, Redmon Kelley (Frankie) of Darlington, Calvin Kelley (Mary) of Darlington; sisters, Zulene Gandy of Kingstree, Rev. Betty Gainey of Sumter, Mary Evans of Darlington; and his Corgi, Toby. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Kearse and all the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice, KershawHealth, and the Agape Hospice house in Columbia for their excellent care.
