In all my 77 years I had never met such a vital Christian man who shared Jesus with such kindness and love.
When I was with him I was the most important person to him. Grief hurts; love sustains.
My prayer for the family is that God's loving presence will comfort you;
His perfect peace will restore you,
and His promise of eternal life sustain you in your time of great loss.
For those of us who remain
Deep in our hearts a memory is kept;
of one we loved and shall never forget;
In God's care Swayze rests above; in our hearts he rests in love.

LeGrand family, I am so sorry for your loss. You have my deepest sympathy. I pray your memories, love and faith will sustain you in this surreal time.
I knew Swayze since elementary school at Lonnie B Nelson. I considered him a friend and have had the pleasure of our paths crossing over the years, most often at a Gamecock sports event.
Swayze was truly one of the best guys I ever knew. He was always happy and friendly and so positive. I can't understand why God takes the best sometimes. I know it's God's plan, but we sure need more Swayzes on this crazy earth.
So long, Swayze, my friend. I'll always remember you sticking out your hand and saying "hey Bud" with genuine joy every time we saw each other. Rest in peace.

Sending heartfelt condolences to the family. Swayze was a ray of sunshine, always smiling and making the world a brighter place. He lit up any room he was in. He was an incredible father, husband, and friend who always put his family first. I miss his voice, especially his laugh! Walk in sunshine & rest in so much peace.

Swayze was just one of a kind. We both coached at Polo road many years ago because Dex and my younger Son Sam were of similar age. Our shared love of baseball and the Gamecocks brought us together many times over the years.
I will miss his character and wit, and I will so miss his unmistakable voice. He just had a certain way about him that was so gregarious, and special. No matter how long it may have been since we had seen each other, Swayze always made it feel like no time had passed at all.
Our hearts are so with you guys, and always remember that we will all be reunited.

We were so sad to hear of the passing of Swayze. We both worked with him at Carolina Forklifts in the 90's and always enjoyed his wit and kind heart. The picture you posted here is exactly how we remember him, always joyful! May you all have the peace that surpasses all understanding during this time, as you know he is with his Savior in Glory.

Swayze lit up a room, that’s for sure. I knew him through his nephew. He told great stories, was a man of god, and a true Gamecock fan. He will be greatly missed.

Debra & Swayze held a special place in my heart from when I was an impressionable teenager at Spears Creek. They showed me it was possible to have a great time while in fellowship with the Lord. Going fishing, camping, spending the night at the church watching movies, etc... He practiced what he preached with us on his shirt tales. He was an awesome example of a Christian and he will be truly missed but he has lead many to Christ to carry on his task. God bless him. Prayers to Debra and family.

Debra, Swayze (Mr. Gamecock) is in Heaven! I think about the times I saw Swayze when you were still working with me at BellSouth. He was always laughing and such a happy guy. I remember when you and Swayze came to my retirement celebration from BellSouth. Max and I saw Swayze at a Lady Gamecocks basketball game a few years back. So many wonderful memories. Please know that you and your family are on my mind and in my heart. My prayer is that God will wrap His comforting arms around you and keep you close to His heart as you go thru these next weeks and months.

In 1977 Swayze along with his brother J.L. visited us for the bus ministry at Spears Creek Baptist Church. It was because of his love for the Lord and his willingness to serve that our family first heard the Gospel and were saved. Swayze will forever be a part of the Derr family testimony. We look forward to seeing him again one day in heaven.

I had the wonderful privilege to work with with Swayze for 12 years. He never missed a chance to speak about
his Love of God and the Love of Family. He always had a smile no matter what obstacles that he and our coworkers faced daily. He is now in heaven a true angel. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
If Swayze wasn’t the most loyalist and true USC sports fan then there will never be one. GOD BLESS YOU !

Please accept our deepest sympathy in the loss of Swayze, a man beloved by many people. He was such a kind and special person, and definitely the life of the party. Swayze touched hearts the first time you met him and knowing him made life better and brighter. Swayze was a man of many words and we loved listening to his poems. You never knew what he was going to say next. We are blessed to have known Swayze even if only for a short while. Our hearts break for you all but take comfort in remembering the years of good times and beautiful memories you all have created.
We pray God brings you peace, comfort and healing during this sad and difficult time. Pete and I are here if you need us.
Love you all and love Swayze.
