Obituary of Mabel Ray Humphries
Mabel Humphries
LUGOFF – A celebration of life service for Mabel Ray Humphries, 91, will be held Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at Springvale Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary. An optional drop-in viewing will be available Monday from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Springvale Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
Mrs. Humphries, wife of the late Albert “Bubba” Humphries, passed away Friday, May 29, 2020. Born in Camden, she was a daughter of the late Nick and Mary Ray. Mabel worked for Jacqueline Hosiery Mill in Camden for 17 years; she worked alongside her husband as his office assistant as they traveled a few years in construction. She then retired from her job of passion after 15 years from the Kershaw County School District where she worked/served in food service, “a cafeteria lady,” at Blaney Elementary School.
Mabel was a faithful member of Springvale Baptist Church. She was a member of the Winsome Sunday School Class, adult choir, and joyfully served in Springvale’s kitchen helping with Wednesday suppers, Vacation Bible School and other social events until her health declined.
Mabel loved music, singing, cooking and baking, fishing, watching game shows, and reading. She enjoyed a good steak on Saturday nights followed by many competitive games of playing cards with family members. In fact, she was willing to play cards any day of the week.
Mabel could be described as a dynamic person, full of life. She was a people person with a magnetic personality. Her smile and laughter were contagious. She loved people with a never-ending care and concern. Without a doubt, she loved her family more than life itself, unconditionally. She will be missed by many.
Surviving are her children, Vickie Cox (Gerald) of Lugoff, Al Humphries (Sandra) of Lugoff, Terri Humphries (Frank Torres) of Lugoff; grandchildren, Steven Humphries (Nicole), Erica Rohrbacher (Erroll), Megan Warren (Matthew), Whitney Humphries (Terence), Brooke Horton (Brandon), Morgan Mankins (Jorden), Nick Smith; and great-grandchildren, Colin and Skylar Humphries, Aiden and Lewis Rohrbacher, Memphis Warren, and Kyleigh Horton. She was predeceased by siblings, Clyburn, Pete, Hazel, Joe, Bobby, Billy, Bertha, and Pauline.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of KershawHealth Hospice and The Colonial at Old Camden for their care and support.
