LUGOFF – Funeral service for Gaines Paul Harrison, Jr., 78, will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens, Elgin. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 17. Mr. Harrison passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2020. Born in Hill Creek, Va., he was the son of the late Gaines Paul Harrison Sr. and Nora Edna Dye Harrison. He retired from the United States Army having served in the Vietnam War. He enjoyed traveling, football, fishing and watching westerns. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Juanita Faye Strewsbury Harrison; daughters, Sarah Dolly Porter of Elgin and Sherry Lynn Goff (James) of Centerville; son, Dean Harrison (Crystal) of Lugoff; 6 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by siblings, Delphie Virginia Lawson, Viola Lewis, Luvennia Hayton, Captola Lewis, Peggy Ervin, Goldie Sizemore, Betty Cochran, Maxine Grice, Margaret Harrison, and Baby Harrison.
