LUGOFF – A service to celebrate the life of Drexel Landis Avant, 68, will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Steve Reynolds will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Concord Baptist Church. Mr. Avant passed away at home on Saturday, January 11, 2020. Born in Florence, he was the son of Katie Powell Avant and the late Oscar Kelly Avant. He retired from Mancor. He was a faithful member of Concord Baptist Church where he served as chairman of Deacons and taught Sunday School. Mr. Avant enjoyed NASCAR, golf and was an avid Gamecock fan. Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Rhonda Kirkland Avant; sons, Shannon Landis Avant (Melissa Butler) and Blake Avant (Emily); step-son, Jason Rose (Melissa); mother, Katie Avant of Johnsonville; sisters, Veretha Cribb (Gerald) and Marsha Hardwick (Danny); brothers, Glynis Avant (Lynne) and Kerris Avant (Joyce); grandchildren, Madison Landis Avant, Brayden Everett Avant, Hudson Kelly Avant, Mason Landis Avant, and Justin Tanner Knott; and his beloved dog, “Nikki”.
