Obituary of Eunice Dixon Player

CAMDEN – A funeral service for Eunice Dixon Player, 89, will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Hermitage Baptist Church with burial to follow in Quaker Cemetery. The Rev. Mark Hopkins will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hermitage Baptist Church Building Fund.

Eunice “Grandma” Player was born in August of 1930 to the late Barney Wallace Dixon, Sr. and the late Evie Parnell Dixon.  She was the third of nine children.

On July 1, 1950 she married the love of her life, Spain Matthew Player.  A year later their first and only child, Cynthia “Cindy”, was born.  Cindy later married and had them two grandchildren who were their pride and joy.

Spain passed away in 1989.  Eunice continued to work at Hermitage Cotton  Mill where they had both worked from young ages.  As soon as Eunice reached retirement age, she retired from the mill.  At this point her grandchildren began to have children of their own.  She then dedicated all of her time helping Cindy and her grandchildren take care of her now great grandchildren.  Her 2 grandchildren blessed her with 10 great grandchildren, so she had plenty to keep her busy.

Over the years as children gave way to more children she simply started to be known as “Grandma” to most everyone.  To the friends of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she was “Grandma”.  Even to many of her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews she was referred to as “Grandma”.  Many times even other adult friends called her “Grandma”.

When Eunice “Grandma” passed away late Monday night September 16, 2019 and entered into Eternal Glory with her Lord and Savior, she was at home, right where she wanted to be, surrounded by her family

When she was not helping take care of grandchildren, Eunice enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and game shows, specifically The Price is Right.  She was a lifelong dedicated member at Hermitage Baptist Church where she was raised and where she raised her family.

Surviving are her daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Crisp; granddaughters, Charity Kambeitz (Phil) and Meg Healey (Jason); great-grandchildren; Morgan Jordan (Tyler), Randy, Kyle, Camryn, Katie, Casey and Lucy Kambeitz, Dakota Schoolfield, McKenna and Alexis Healey; siblings, Wallace “Bo” Dixon, Jr. and Helen Threatt. She was predeceased by her husband, Spain Player and Son-in-Law, Jim Crisp; siblings, Ophelia “Peanut” Hayes, Margaret Shoemake, Frances Caulder, Annette Gardner, Bonnie Horton and Charles Dixon.
