Obituary of Barbara DeCardy Rogers

COLUMBIA - A celebration of life service for Barbara DeCardy Rogers, 85, will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home.

Barbara passed away on September 8, 2019. Born in Park Ridge, Illinois on July 12, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Lambert F. and Mabel DeCardy. She graduated from Maine Township High School. She was a devoted Christian and was a member of Long Creek Church of Christ.

She was married to the late Charlie Rogers for 66 years. Barbara wore many hats throughout her life. She was a switchboard operator, assistant to Charlie in his construction company, homemaker, restaurant owner and realtor. She retired after 20 years from the Camden Archives and Museum where she was the archives clerk. She loved her job and the people she worked with there. 

Barbara was naturally creative in many ways. She drew, sculpted, cross stitched and painted. She also sewed hundreds of outfits for herself and her daughters (and even for her daughters’ Barbie dolls.) Also, she made her niece’s bridal gown and all the bridesmaids’ gowns.

She was a member of the Clemson Extension, Toastmasters International, Brownie leader and PTA President. Barbara enjoyed singing, cooking, reading and especially traveling. Her biggest passions in life were touring houses and spending time with family. She was always up for hosting a party or going to one. 

Surviving are her children, Penny Harris(Bill) of Columbia, Pam Henson (Tom) of Illinois, Patti Tucker (late Glyn) of Woodruff and Peggi Branham (Mike) of California; her grandchildren, Donnie Hawkins, Mandy Heizer (Trae), Thomas Peebles, Will and Wyatt Henson, Charlie and Andy Branham; her great-grandchildren, Tripp and Max. Barbara is preceded in death by her brother, Lambert W. DeCardy.
