Obituary of Olin Thompson
CAMDEN – Funeral service for Olin Stokes Thompson, 87, will be held Friday at 12:30 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Cameron and the Rev. Jeff Grubbs will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday 11:00 – 12:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Mr. Thompson passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Born in Bethune, S.C. he was the son of the late Hugh Solomon and Daisy Maude Stokes Thompson. He served in the United States Army, the United States Navy, the United States Coast Guard, and the United States Merchant Marine. He was a veteran of WW II.
Mr. Thompson retired from DuPont after 41 years, and was a metal craftsman known as “Stainless Steel Man”. He was a Mason for over 55 years and a member of NAUS. He was a former member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Bethune. Mr. Thompson enjoyed Gardening.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Caroline Crouch Thompson; daughter, Vonda Kay Pugh (Boyd. E.) of West Columbia; son, Graham Wesley Thompson (Gwen) of Easley; and 5 grandchildren. He was predeceased by 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the Rev. Richard Cameron, and the Rev. Jeff Grubbs, and to the staff at Agape Hospice for their compassion and love given to Mr. Thompson and the family during his illness.
