Obituary of Bobbie B. Sims

CAMDEN – Bobbie Brewer Sims, 79, of Camden, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 19, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Archie Alton and Grace Shaw Brewer. Born in Darlington, SC on November 13, 1933, she moved to Camden when she was one year old. She attended Camden schools and was the valedictorian for her Pine Tree Elementary School 5th grade class. She was a 1952 Camden High School graduate and attended the Medical University of South Carolina where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. She was licensed and worked in Georgia, Indiana, Colorado and South Carolina. She was also a Red Cross Nurse. She served her country by being a loyal Army wife for 24 years. Mrs. Sims greatest joy in life came from spending time with her family, especially her husband, children and grandchildren. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed hosting others in her home. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 195 and Hermitage Baptist Church where she faithfully attended the JOY Sunday School Class. Special thanks to the caregivers from Agape Hospice in Camden and Columbia. Surviving are her husband, Col. John “Jay” C. Sims, Jr.; two daughters, Mrs. Anne (Dan) Rozell of Trophy Club, Texas and Mrs. Janet (Dr. David) DeCillis of Charlotte, NC; two sons, John B. Sims (Debbie) of Elgin, SC and Joel K. Sims (Stephanie) of Lancaster, Pa. She is loved by 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. A service to celebrate Mrs. Sims’ life will be held Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Hermitage Baptist Church. The Rev. Jason Fletcher, the Rev. Mark Hopkins and the Rev. Richard Cameron will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday 2:30-4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will be private. Memorials may be made to Hermitage Baptist Church, 814 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Camden, SC 29020.
