Obituary of Margie S. Hunter

Margie S. Hunter, 87, of Lugoff, SC went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 while in Kershaw Health in Camden, SC.  Born Margie Louise Smoak on April 27, 1931 in Asheboro, NC, Margie was the youngest child of the late Peter Isaac and Lilly Hinshaw Smoak.  Margie graduated from Farmer High School. She married a Camden native, TSgt Ervin R. Hunter III, and traveled around the world having many adventures during their Air Force years. Mrs. Hunter was a cosmetologist by trade and operated a beauty shop in Lugoff after they settled in the area following her husband’s Air Force retirement.  She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Lugoff, SC and enjoyed being an active member of the Joy Sunday school class.  She showed great compassion for others in her lifetime – often taking food to the sick or visiting the lonely. She was a good friend, a devoted wife and mother, and a loving grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband – the late Ervin R. Hunter III, two of her sons – Randall Kim Hunter, and Randy Ken Hunter, as well as two grandsons – Kevin Hunter, and Nathan Croft.  Additionally, Margie was also preceded in death by sisters – Clelia Thomas, Blanche Starling, Mary York, Ruth Smoak, and Dorothy Shaw and son-in-law, Chalmers Croft. She held fast to her hope and faith in Christ and endured her losses and widowhood with strength, dignity, grace, and competence. Margie found joy in life and great pleasure in family visits and get-togethers, enjoyed eating out with friends, loved to read, liked to frequent flea markets, and especially loved to laugh.

Mrs. Hunter is survived by son Ronald Kent Hunter and wife Sara of Cassatt, SC; daughter Ronda Croft Champion and husband Tim of Lawndale, NC, grandson Jered Hunter of Charleston, SC; grandson Chalmers Croft II and wife Jennifer of Nashville, Tenn.; grandson Joshua Croft of Huntersville, NC; grandson Micah Croft of Lawndale, NC; granddaughter Jennifer Rentschler and husband Mike of Athens, Ga; Grandson Justin Champion and wife Leah of Columbia, SC; great granddaughter Addalynn Croft; and great grandsons Owen, Rhys, and Landry Rentschler; and Summerow Champion.
