Obituary of Gerald Truesdell
GERALD TRUESDELL, JR.
WESTVILLE- Gerald Wayne “Jerry” Truesdell, Jr., 53, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, after a long courageous battle with leukemia. He was the son of Gerald W. Truesdell, Sr., and the late Barbara F. Truesdell of Westville.
Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Crystal G. Truesdell; father, Gerald W. Truesdell, Sr.; daughter, Brittany Leigh Truesdell of Columbia; son, Jeremy Seth Truesdell of Westville, and his fiancé, Sarah Elizabeth Robinson of Kershaw; sister, Kay T. Young of Manning; brother-in-law, Steve Sims of Westville; mother-in-law, Jean G. Sims of Kershaw; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Debra T. Sims.
Mr. Truesdell was known to many as “Jerry Boy.” He was a member of Bethany Westville Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the deacons, proudly operated the sound system, and served in many other capacities in the church. He served as a volunteer firefighter for Westville Fire Department for many years until his illness forced him to resign. He still enjoyed, and looked forward to helping with the barbeque fundraiser. His most cherished moments in life were spending time with his wife, children, and his two cats, Beasy and Blondie. His most cherished accomplishments were serving the Lord, clowning with his wife, as “Bubba and Blossom,” through the clown ministry, and square dancing with the Camden Hi-Steppers. He was in the logging business for 27 years and previously co-owned and operated Kerwest, Inc. He currently owned J&C Transport, LLC. with his wife, Crystal.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Vamsi Kota, Lisa Campbell, and the staff at MCG Health in Augusta, GA.; Dr. Mohammed El Geneidy at SCOA in Columbia, S.C.; and his “special ladies” at the Lexington Medical Infusion Center.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Bethany Westville Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Craigan Blankenship will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 – 8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Westville Baptist Church, Family Life Center at P.O.
