Obituary of Montez A. Self

CAMDEN – Funeral service for Montez Avant Self, 70, will be held on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Church of God with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Saturday 4-6 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff.  Memorials may be made  to St. Andrew Church of God Youth.

    Mrs. Self passed away at home on Thursday, October 18, 2018.  Born in Johnsonville, she was the daughter of the late James Zopher and Lear Prosser Avant.  She was a member of St. Andrew Church of God.  She enjoyed singing, music and was very talented.  Montez also enjoyed traveling, golf, antique cars and being a part of Central Carolina Mopar Club.

    Montez was co-founder of Self’s Heating and Air Conditioning Inc.  She served as secretary and treasurer for 49 years.

    Surviving are her husband of 51 ½ years, William L. “Bill” Self; children, Candace Self (Michael Guinn), William L. Self (Rebecca), Misty Scarborough (Randall); grandchildren, Necole Stives (Jon), Hope Kelly, Dakota Powell (Christopher), Megan Self, Hailey Scarborough, Timmy Scarborough, Ariel Branham, Brittney Branham, Summer Stives, Ashleigh Baker, Rebecca Kelly, Lauren Kelly, Ashton Lovell and Lynn Hunter, Jay Hunter; sisters, Julia Norton (DeVon), Nellie Ann Avant, Barbara Maczko (John); and brothers, Thomas Avant, George Allen Avant (Lena) and Chris Avant (Peggy).
