LUGOFF – Funeral service for John Clayton Buff, 56, will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia. The family will receive friends Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Mr. Buff died Friday, June 22, 2012. Born in Hartsville, he was the son of the late Wilber and Ruby Buff and Otis Leroy Gainey and Euna Mae Steen Gainey. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He was a self-employed professional painter. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. Surviving are his wife, Norma Jean Gripper-Buff; sons, John Clayton Buff Jr. and Dalton Buff; daughter, Paulette Milligan; step-children, Adrian Deschamp, Duran Gripper (Casandra), Matthew Gripper, Rufus Gripper Jr. (Wanda), Eileen Hartgrove (Raleigh), and Norma Gripper Jr.; sister, Elsie Johnson; brothers, Leroy L. Gainey (Bonnie), Gene Gainey, and Travis Walker (Georgia); 17 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, Harold Joseph Gainey and James D. Gainey.
