LUGOFF – Funeral service for Lewie Calhoun Gardner, 86, will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral home with burial to follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Cameron will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Gardner died Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Dorn VA Medical Center. Born in Camden, he was the son of the late Joseph “Joe” and Mattie Rabon Gardner. He served in the United States Army in the 82nd Air Bourne during WW II. He retired from DuPont after 30 years of service. He was a member of the VFW and enjoyed spending time with his daughter and grandson. Surviving are his daughter, Donna Gardner of Columbia; grandson, Taylor Gardner; and brothers, Gene Gardner, James Gardner and Harvey Gardner. He was predeceased by a son, Kenneth Gardner; brothers, Elbert, Lemuel, Blease, Elmer, and Edward; and sisters, Mary, Susie, Lois, and Almedda.
