LUGOFF – Funeral service for James Edward Kirkland, 66, will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Concord Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. David Sturgeon will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Concord Baptist Church, 2211 Porter Cross Road, Lugoff, S.C. 29078. Mr. Kirkland died Tuesday, March 27, 2012. Born in Camden, he was a son of the late Sam Richard and Lila LeGrand Kirkland. He served in the United States Army and is a Vietnam veteran. He retired from Trane Corporation in Columbia and was a member of Concord Baptist Church. He enjoyed his church, family, and fishing. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Myra Aldrich Kirkland; sons, James E. “Kirk” Kirkland (Tara Martin), and Sam Douglas Kirkland (Meredith); grandchildren, Madison, Morgan, Marissa, and Nathan; brothers, Henry Kirkland (Peggy) and Cotton Kirkland (Dee); sisters, Minnie Motley (Samuel), Edna Martin, Sue Branham, and Daisy Rhodes; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Sam W. Kirkland, Duncan Kirkland, and Danny Kirkland; and sisters, Nettie Mae Cameron and Sallie Bell O’Quinn.
