Obituary of Pete Ray

LUGOFF – Funeral services for Pete Ray, 77, will be held Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at El-Bethel Faith Community Church, with burial to follow in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Stines and Rev. Todd Horton will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Mr. Ray died Monday, March 5, 2012. Born in Camden, he was the son of the late Nick and Mary Ray. He was an accomplished singer and songwriter. Mr. Ray was a Former city of Camden police officer and retired from DuPont after 17 years, and was a member of El-Bethel Faith Community Church and the Masonic Lodge of Ridgeway. He enjoyed Fishing and golfing. Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Nona Pearl Harwell Ray, son, Peter G. Ray (Vicky) of Lugoff; step children, Donald Flewellen Sr. of Stuart, FL., Marvin “Chris” Flewellen of Kelso, TN; grandchild, Jeremy Ray; step grandchildren, Kristin Flewellen, Donald Flewellen Jr., Austin Casey Flewellen, Edward Flewellen, and a sister, Mable Humphries. He was predeceased by brothers, Joe Ray, Bobby Ray, Billy Ray, Hazel Ray, Clyburn Ray; and sisters, Bertha Pratt, and Pauline Morrow.
