LUGOFF - A celebration of life service for Fred Shipton, 82, will be held Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. The Rev. Joe Stines, the Rev. Kirk Baker, and the Rev. Greg Sweet will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, and the American Lung Association. Mr. Shipton died Sunday, February 12, 2012. Born in Hollis, N.C., he was the son of the late Johnnie Robert and Sarah Lovelace Shipton. He retired from the US Air Force after serving God and his country proudly in Korea and Vietnam, and then retired from DuPont. He was a member of El-Bethel Faith Community Church, the Masons, American Legion, VFW, and DAV. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Lois Katherine Hardin Shipton; sons, MSGT Donald E. Shipton, US Air Force (Ret’d) of Lugoff, MSGT Michael W. Shipton, US Air Force (Ret’d) (Lola) of Lugoff; daughter, Bootsy Branham (Sonny) of Lugoff; grandchildren, Kimberly Hoffman (Robert), David Shipton, Sandra Shipton, and Chad Branham (Casey); 8 great-grandchildren; and 1 great great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a son, Fred Kenneth Shipton; grandson, Ron Branham; 3 brothers; and 4 sisters.
